Abstract

The study investigated entrepreneurship intention among University of Benin students: The role of access to finance and entrepreneurship programmes. The research design adopted for this study is the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study was made up of the undergraduates from the 15 faculties in the University of Benin, Benin City. The sample size for the study was made up of 150 undergraduate students who were randomly selected from the 15 faculties in the University of Benin. The data collected for this study was analyzed using frequency counts and simple percentages while the hypotheses for the study were tested using chi-square method. Findings from the study revealed that there is a high level of entrepreneurship intention among undergraduate students in the University of Benin. It was concluded that access to finance significantly influence the entrepreneurial intentions of students in the University of Benin. Based on the findings, it was recommended that the University of Benin should establish dedicated funding programmes such as grants, microloans, or soft loans to support students' entrepreneurial ventures. Collaboration with financial institutions, NGOs, and Alumni networks can also enhance accessibility.
